Magazine Covers - May 2011

Vogue - Katrina Kaif
Stardust - Sonam Kapoor
Grazia - Lara Dutta
Harper's Bazaar - Malaika Arora Khan

Katrina goes sultry and vamp-y for the Vogue cover. Its a nice change from her saccharine, white outfits and this would have been an amazing cover if not for the yellow fonts all over the place. They are so distracting!

Another month, another Sonam cover, sigh! Hate her hairstyle.

I like Grazia's cover - Lara looks fresh in a simple outfit.

Malaika wore a daring, slutty Pucci crochet dress for the cover. Since the dress is such an eyeful and is obviously meant to be the focus of the cover, everything else was kept simple and unfussy - nude makeup, curly hair, white/black fonts and a neutral background. Great cover - very well styled.
Love Malaika's hairstyle - gives her a soft look.

Magazine Cover - L'Officiel April 2011

Who: Karisma Kapur

Karisma in Roberto Cavalli for the 9th anniversary issue of the magazine. That is one super-sexy dress but the styling (aka accessories and hairstyle) really don't do it justice. Would have preferred a more "bitchy" expression:-) And I am not sure I like the guys holding her pics.

Thoughts?

Magazine Covers - April 2011

Verve - Anushka Sharma
Elle - Lisa Haydon

My issue with both the covers is the model faces. Anushka is barely recognizable - I understand using photoshop to make models look flawless or thin but to make Anushka not look like herself is self-defeating - isnt her face the selling point?
I love the color composition of Elle - very impactful and spring-y but Lisa's makeup is so horrid! Why?

Magazine Covers - April 2011

Grazia - Kareena Kapoor
Marie Claire - Genelia D'Souza
Vogue - Ashika Pratt
Harper's Bazaar - Giselle Monterio

Kareena in Dolce & Gabanna S/S 2011 which is pretty similar (not the same) to what Giselle wore for the Vogue April 2011 (French) cover. She has minimal makeup and looks fresh. I like her cute pose but the background is a letdown! Grazia does a lot of these multi-shaded backgrounds which never work for me.

On the other hand, I love the Marie Claire yellow background and the colors of Genelia's outfit. The cover is like a color block effect. Only wish everyone would stop posing like Sonam Kapoor.

The Vogue and Harper Bazaar cover are the best covers I have seen in a loong time. Both, Ashika and Giselle kick ass and make me wanna grab the issue and hit the gym:-) What I also liked was that the mastheads are the same color as the outfits. It kind of pulls the covers together.

Now, a sneak peek into Glamour, US May 2011 edition. Glamour has put "three of Hollywood's biggest rising stars" (Glamour's words, not mine) Emma Stone, Freida Pinto, and Ashley Greene on three different covers. Freida is wearing Peter Som. Flirty!!

Magazine Covers - March 2011

Elle - Cant place her:(
Harper's Bazaar - Priyanka Chopra
Vogue - Deepika Padukone
Marie Claire - Kalki Koechlin
Verve - Aishwarya Rai
Femina - Sarah Jane Dias

I liked the background of Elle cover (Rajasthan fort?) and the shoes. The clothes are vague but I love the way the model posed. I also would like to get my hands on the "300 best buys" list for Spring/Summer 2011!
Priyanka's outfit on the Bazaar cover is fabulous and I am happy they didnt over-accessorize her. The orange masthead is a nice cheery contrast to the white background.
Deepika is smoking hot on the Vogue cover! We all know she has one of the best bods in the industry and this cover totally showcases that! The pink dress against a darker pink background looks very cool but for some reason this doesn't look like Vogue. Cosmopolitan and Glamour covers are what come to mind:P
I cant believe someone made Kalki wear such a fugly wig! Its horrible! She looks like a primate here.
Yes, thats Aish on the Verve cover. Her face is her selling point, so not sure why its partially hidden? Her hair and makeup is very conventional and I find the rings a little distracting.

Magazine Covers - February 2011

Filmfare - Anushka Sharma
Grazia - Deepika Padukone
Femina - Kangana Ranaut
Stardust Icon - Rani Mukherjee
Vogue - Aishwarya Rai
Elle - not sure abt the models
Conde Nast Traveller - Padma Lakshmi

The Filmfare cover is soft and simple but there is waay too much text on the cover. Looks like they out the entire content of the magazine on the cover!!

Grazia - The clothes, the side plait and the pose, especially the pose is soooo Sonam Kapoor! why? Is there no one else left to copy? And they have managed to make a beautiful girl look so unattractive! First for any magazine:-)

Like the Femina cover. the color composition of the Stardust Icon cover is nice but Rani isnt looking her best.

We already did the Vogue cover in a earlier post. Aishwarya is wearing Roksanda Ilincic and is looking fierce.

The Elle cover is the best. I never seen a denim jacket look this sexy. I also like the fact the models are not over-styled and over-accessorized . Not sure who the models are but they rock the cover.

Not sure whats more attractive on the Traveller cover - the New York skyline or Padma Lakshmi. Honestly, the cover makes me want to buy the issue to check out all the NY bar-hopping places. Which is exactly the point!!

Magazine Covers - Vogue, February 2011

The cover is really fierce and I love the simple, minimal styling of this shoot. I wish Aishwarya would wear red more often in real life and someone other than Manish Malhotra..I know, wishful thinking..
