Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Gauri and Nainika

Gauri and Nainika closed the Lakme fashion week, 2011 with a collection inspired by
the Fantasy cosmetic line by Lakme. They presented five looks which were created to flatter the beauty of women for the Summer/Resort 2011 season, "started with the Sugar Plum Fairy in shades of pink, followed by the Snow Queen in rainbow hues, The Cloud Princess surrounded by blues and greens, The Wandering Butterfly who is nature’s child and finally Goddess of Gold surrounded by gold as she shimmers and shines."

The collection consisted of evening gowns and cocktail dresses and there was lots of tulle, lace and taffeta. Had a sense of deja-vu when going thru the looks since it reminds me a lof ot Marchesa and Armani Prive "Moon" collection. In fact, something every similar to the third outfit in first row was worn by Scarlett Johansson for the "IronMan2" premiere.

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Pria Kataaria Puri

Pria's resort collection at the fashion week was titled "Marrakesh". The collection consisted of kaftans, maxis, tunics, dressed and blouses and color palette was dramatic with a generous play of off white, yellow, orange and apple green teal pink, burgundy, navy and of course black which is the color of the night.

The outfits had beautiful flower and Arabesque prints to which Pria added mirror work, crystals and lots of silk tassels. Most of the prints are similar but I love the colors she used. Very vibrant and glamorous collection! I didnt like the addition of tassels - always reminds me of window treatments:P

Aimed at the cocktail, evening wear chic buyer, the “S&N Drape” Divonics collection presented by Shantan and Nikhil, was a blend of Indian vintage designs cleverly merged with contemporary sophisticated silhouettes. Consisting of mainly western wear, the collection consisted of skirts, shorts, bodycon dress, bodysuits and gowns. The colors were mainly greys and browns with some orange thrown in.

Gorgeous draping with very sophisticated and stylish pieces. A great collection.

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Anita Dongre

If you are looking for cutting edge fashion, then Anita Dongre is not for you. She is the polar opposite of Manish Arora:-) Her forte is traditional, ethnic silhouettes done in Mul (a type of fabric) and Benares weaves. Her pieces are very classy and timeless. This collection titled "Love and Life" is just perfect for summer! Done mainly in whites, creams with some pink and powder blue thrown in, the pieces are grand, regal and wearable.

I loved her collection - white with gold is one of my favorite combos!

Who do I see wearing her collection? Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Manish Malhotra

Manish Malhotra ended the second day of the fashion week. His collection consisted of both men and women outfit and had beautiful Chikankari work as well as Karshmiri embroidery. The colors used were delicate summer shades of aqua, green, powder blue and ivory.

The womens collections consisted of voluminous lehengas and anarkalis paired with tights or palazzo style pants. The use of net fabric and rajashtan gotas was predominant in his collection.

Each piece was exquisite and very wearable and my favorite is the second oufit in the last row. However, the net and gota combination as well as anarkalis has been done to death by Manish and I really wish to see something new from the highly talented designer.

Who do I see wearing his collection? Every actress worth her salt. sigh...

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s Summer/Resort 2011 collection was inspired by Aircel’s CSR project SAVE THE TIGER.

"Starting the show with a line of yellow, black and ivory tones inspired by the colours of the Indian Tiger, Sabyasachi presented a collection that moved through the various decades of fashion. There was the fun and freedom of the 20s, followed by the elegance of the 30s and 40s. There were touches of the 70s Boho chic and the 80s daring arresting bras."

The collection consisted of skirts, maxi-dresses, mini-sarees layered oer skirts. A couple of jumpsuits but not trousers or leggings. Sabyasachi forte is his use of indian textiles, indian prints, simple garments with lots of layering - all present in the collection. He also did some color-blocking but they were lacking in finesse.
He usually has a common thread running thru the presentation and this time also all his models had the same hairstyle, wore the same eye glasses and same style of shoes.

The whole collection has a boho-chic look but we have seen similar stuff before in his past collections. Nothing unique/exciting or new from the designer:-(

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Anamika Khanna

The Lakme Summer/Resort 2011 opened with Anamika Khanna.

"Anamika’s creations give women’s wear an ethnic Indian look but with elegant masculine touches for silhouettes and detailings that range from regal Indian royal clothing to comfortable daily men’s wear with the dhoti being a major inspiration for the designer."

The collection consisted mainly of floor-length skirts with cropped tops, jackets with trousers and full skirts with trousers. The trousers were either multi gathered or skin tight leggings/Jodhpuri pants. The main color was white with lots of pink, black and purple thrown in. The whole collection had a minimalistic look with embroidery and embellishments used at at strategic places like sleeves, as panels or edged hemlines and borders.
