Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2011 - Sabyasachi

The grand finale at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion week was by Sabyasachi. His collection had everything but the kitchen sink - black/gold embroidery, black/white, florals, stripes, maxi-skirts, minis, jumsuits, skirts over sarees! Sabyasachi is really great at showcasing Indian textiles and different types of Indian embroidery. His collection had a boho chic vibe but didn't have a whole lot of layering - something which is considered Sabysachi's forte.

As expected, all his models had stacked bangles and wore red roses in their hair. Sabyasachi always has his models do the same hair/accessories:-)

Who do I see wearing his collection? I didn't like the zebra stripes so I am sure Vidya will be the first one to wear it:-)

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s Summer/Resort 2011 collection was inspired by Aircel’s CSR project SAVE THE TIGER.

"Starting the show with a line of yellow, black and ivory tones inspired by the colours of the Indian Tiger, Sabyasachi presented a collection that moved through the various decades of fashion. There was the fun and freedom of the 20s, followed by the elegance of the 30s and 40s. There were touches of the 70s Boho chic and the 80s daring arresting bras."

The collection consisted of skirts, maxi-dresses, mini-sarees layered oer skirts. A couple of jumpsuits but not trousers or leggings. Sabyasachi forte is his use of indian textiles, indian prints, simple garments with lots of layering - all present in the collection. He also did some color-blocking but they were lacking in finesse.
He usually has a common thread running thru the presentation and this time also all his models had the same hairstyle, wore the same eye glasses and same style of shoes.

The whole collection has a boho-chic look but we have seen similar stuff before in his past collections. Nothing unique/exciting or new from the designer:-(

New BFFs in town - Part II

Who: Vidya, Rani

For a yet another NOKJ promotional event, Vidya stuck to her kurti+ jeans whereas Rani went for a more tailored look in a shirt+ skirt paired with Chanel necklace. Like Rani here since she made some effort before stepping out of the house.

Who: Rani and Vidya

This is from an event that happened yesterday. Both, Rani and Vidya, are in Sabyasachi. Completely smitten by Rani's outfit - love, love that shade of blue and the black sleeves are just perfect otherwise the blue would have been overwhelming. And I really think she should have worn some nice, big earrings.
Vidya's outfit has a very boho-chic look but doesn't really come together.

Daily catch

Who: Rani Mukherjee
Where: At Durga Puja

Wow! Rani is really glowing! I love her gorgeous makeup more than the Sabyasachi sari. Looking sweet and simple at the puja(prayer meeting)..

Who: Chitrangada Singh
Where: Launch of Tanisq new range

Chitrangada wore a bandage dress for the launch of Tanishq new watch collection. Love the pairing of the dress with nude shoes but not sure if the skinny belt was required. Again, gorgeous nude makeup with a hint of blush..
What do you think - does the belt enhance the look or is it distracting??

Who: Deepika Padukone
Where: Launch of Tissot new model

Another watch launch, this time by Deepika. The coral color looks really great on her but somehow the dress has a very tacky/cheap look to it..

Who: Celina Jaitley
Where: Eygptian tourism party

Celina in a floral sari which looks like two different window curtains proving the theory that even window curtains/treatments can be recycled!!
On the bright side she experimented with her hair:-) And this is one instance when she needed her big bindi as her makeup looks pale..

Who: Priyanka Chopra
Where: At the launch of her Avataar by UTV interactive

Priyanka is back in her uniform of short dresses. All her red carpet looks are starting to roll into just one typical dress, sigh..
Doesn't the print remind you of TV static before TV went digtal? Maybe she is sending signals to aliens..With those shoes, even they wont welcome her on their planet!!

Aishwarya Rai at Robot premiere

Who: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Where: "Robot" premiere

Aishwarya wore a cream and coral anarkali by Manish Malhotra to the "Robot" premiere hosted by Rajinikanth. Love the coral color but the sleeves are really ugly - somebody please rip them!! Manish Malhotra just presented such a gorgeous collection at Lakme Fashion Week'10- why did Aishwarya pick this bland number??

Since we are on the topic of Ms. Rai, she was on the cover of "Hi!Blitz"' magazine, Oct 10 issue.

She is in Sabyasachi couture and I love, love the way the whole shoot was styled. The earthy colors and dull/soft focus gives a very vintage-y feel. I know this is blasphemy but the clothes are really not that great.. Its the whole composition of the shot and of course Ms Rai which took my breath away..

How did you like the Hi-blitz cover?

Delhi Couture Week'10 - Sabyasachi

The Delhi Couture week 2010 started today with Sabyasachi Mukherjee's textile-driven collection. From the few pictures that are available, it looks like the collection had all the Sabyasachi trademarks - earthy colors, lots of layering, minimal makeup, one common accessory worn by every model - this time it was an Indian style hat with zardozi work. Quoting the designer himself - "The line is very romantic and gives the feel of a museum, something that is period, Victorian or simply antique". Here are some pics.

The Collection

Sabyasachi with his muses - Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan
Vidya looks pretty in a red saree and Rani is wearing a black jumpsuit with some major bling bling. I assume both are wearing Sabyasachi since it would be a little awkward if someone asked Vidya who she was wearing and she sweetly said "Manish Malhotra" :-)

Yet another Sabyasachi

Who: Aishwarya Rai
Where: Promoting Raavan in Delhi

We have only cropped images of this dress:( The print on the sleeves gives me a very 70's vibe and I would love to see a short dress in that print... In the current form, the print is not gelling with the white kurta. I feel as if the dress is trying to hard to be boho chic..Neck up, she looks fabulous.

Celebs at Lakme fashion week.

The celeb turnout at Lakme fashion week was pretty poor. We still have 2 more days to go so maybe we will spot some brighter stars;-)

Who: Neha Dhupia

How cute is her outfit? Looks very chic and casual. I am not into baggy pleated pants but she has the height to pull it off and not look boxy. Her sunglasses are too black ( can a thing be too black?? - black is black after all, hmmm, but you do get my drift, dont you) It looks as if she is blind :o
(no offense to vision-impaired people)

Who: Dia Mirza

Dia in a very boring outfit. Come on, Dia, its fashion week!! put in some effort!!

Who: Vidya Balan

Vidya wearing a Sabyasachi designer sari on fashion week, day one. To me, it looks like a simple hand-loom cotton sari - not sure what the 'designer' part is??Lose the thumb ring (so tacky) and I think you can go one size up in bindis. What do you guys think?

I have no clue who she is (model, socialite??) but I am totally drooling over her dress and those kick-ass shoes. The outfit is simple yet elegant and the shoes give it an edgy look.

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi is pretty popular on the red carpet with a number of celebs sporting his creations - esp. saris. His Summer/Resort 2010 was inspired by colors of Africa, American underground years of the 70s and Paris of the 1920s. The color palette was earthy with large doses of silver and gold embroidery. He went for a layered look in his presentation with the models wearing a number of different clothing pieces creatively put together. All the models wore pink-hued glasses, bandanas and stacked chunky bangles. Do note the cute printed wedge heel slip-ons.
