Relationships :: A Contest!

I love contests.  I love entering them and love winning  :)

One of my favorite wins so far was a "Be Grateful" shirt that I wear more here in Delhi, than I ever did back in the snowglobe of Ohio!

I'm going to host my own contest here on Delhi Bound ... and hope that you'll all enter to win!

My mom lives in Kenya, as a self-supported missionary (meaning that she is not affiliated with a church or organization as a means of supporting her work).  She blogs at Ministry 2 Kenya and has recently written her second book.

Mom (a/k/a Deb Smith) is a unusual missionary in that she's not doing the typical missionary thing.  She doesn't traditionally put roofs on schools, or travel the country preaching and teaching.

What she DOES do is live amongst and with the locals in Kenya.  She teaches folks she encounters how to make a better living (if you teach a man to fish), she spends time with children who have been orphaned (flying kites, making chocolate chip cookies and introducing them to PB&J).  She identifies needs and meets those needs.  Whether it be Agnes and her sewing machine, Rose and Sammy and their school fees, soothing the sorrow of Collins or assisting in the birth of little Duane ... she is there when she is needed.

The first book, called Created for Purpose, Compelled to Kenya is a compilation of stories that she originally sent to friends/family as emails.  The experiences took place during her first year living in Kenya (June 2002 - June 2003).   Told in simple narrative form, you are SURE to enjoy her adventures of ministering in reckless abandon - as an out-of-the-box missionary.  You will smell the aromas of Kenya, plod through muddy village with her, and as you read, get to really know her Kenyan friends.

Her second book, Created for Relationship, is a continuation of her adventures, experiences and life-changing support that she lends to everyone she comes in contact with.  Also a collection of short stories, this book encompasses a four-year span of time.
