Designer Notes - Sobia Saleem

I first came across Sobia Saleem clothes when i featured a shoot by Amna Hakim,
A Decadent Afternoon Tea
, and i liked what i saw, and i wanted to know more, so here she is answering a few questions...

Sobia Saleem
I started designing because…It was my PASSION ! - I knew that I was born to become a fashion designer!!

I was attracted to designing bridal gowns because I love being a part of such an important day in my clients' lives and knowing that I can make them feel and look amazing on their BIG DAY.– and once you’ve made what a client had in her mind for her perfect day– the happiness and glow on her face is worth all the hard work which i’ve done to make her outfit !!

My  style is… classic, simple elegance with a contemporary twist. I specialise in couture and custom-made pieces using traditional methods. I manage to combine elegance and creativity with effortless ease. For me, fashion is a melange of everything i am passionate about - the most exhilarating way of propagating my experiences and enthusiasm.

A perfect wedding gown should… be the most memorable outfit of her life.. The work on it should be intricate !!!!

Bride’s visiting my boutique will findhuge variety of casuals, formals and bridal outfits. Along with – matching clutches.

My biggest achievement to date is I believe whatever i am today is my biggest achievement! At the age of 21 – i’ve already had tons of exhibitions and fashion shows abroad and in Pakistan as well.

In my dreams, I’dgrab a couple of awards for my hard work :p

I am… unbelievably lucky to have made a career out of doing what I love and most of all to be able to combine this with having an amazing and supporting family without whom none of this would be possible or worthwhile.. By the grace of Almighty Allah – after working very hard from past 5 years – I can proudly say that now people know me and my BRAND!!  Which is really a HUGE thing for me

You probably won’t know this but I started out my career as a hobby which then turned into a sideline business and then to a full time business at age 20.

My next challenge will be hitting different cities of CANADA with my exhibitions and fashion shows!

Next year I predict  brides will be wearingbeautiful soft gowns, very feminine, with low backs. Lace will continue throughout 2011 as a strong trend with a lot of striking beading and brooches highlighting our bridal gowns.
