Reverance

During the last year of Cub Scouts, Tony's den did some work learning about various flags.  Their task was to learn about the flags of different countries and the corresponding ceremony, respect and reverance held for each flag.

It was interesting to me that with a den that boasted more than five nationalities, we only had two willing dads step forward to teach the kids about their nation's flag.

As we stay up WAY too late watching the World cup games, the song "Wave your Flag" plays consistently ... and I'm quite addicted to the tune and the lyrics (well, that and Waka Waka!).

During the den meeting do you know that some of the parents explained that their country (they will remain nameless) does NOT hold any reverence for their flag.  Is that possible?

Coming from a country where the flag is not to touch the ground, not to be burned, not to be displayed publicly after dark without appropriate lights, is presented to the families of fallen soldiers and is put to half-mast to honor those who have died ... how can you not revere the flag of your country?
Want to learn more about the Indian flag?  It's got some pretty cool history!

We are excited to spend the evening with fellow Americans ... with music, games, more music, fireworks and food.  It will feel good to celebrate together as a family, since we missed last year's 4th as we were en route to Delhi, while Husb finished setting up house.

Happy Fourth of July!!
